# About Evaluators

> Learn what evaluators are and how they help measure the quality of AI-generated educational materials through pedagogical alignment assessment.

## What are evaluators?

You use evaluators to measure the quality of materials created by AI-powered edtech tools. Each evaluator:

* Measures aspects of pedagogical alignment
* Identifies areas for improvement
* Supports the design of consistent, effective learning experiences

## Evaluators and Learning Commons

Evaluators help you build evidence-based tools that support student learning and whole child development. Learning Commons works to close the gap between AI innovation and learning science by:

**Anchoring in learning science**\
We collaborate with experts in learning science and rubric development, including\
[Student Achievement Partners](https://learnwithsap.org/) ↗, [CAST](https://www.cast.org/) ↗, and [Achievement Network (ANet)](https://www.achievementnetwork.org/) ↗.

**Working with pedagogical experts**\
We translate expert insight into ground-truth datasets that reflect real teaching and learning principles.

**Building, verifying, and shipping**\
We develop and validate software that can evaluate text the way an expert would.

## Our approach to building evaluators

You can use our evaluators to measure key dimensions that define high-quality AI-generated content. We follow a repeatable, research-informed process to define, test, and build evaluators that edtech developers can use to reliably assess their outputs.
